This week we told you that this year we are media partners of the Run Like A Hero virtual and solidarity race in favor of the Phelan-McDermid syndrome association ; a rare disease that has about 200 diagnosed cases in Spain, although it is believed that there may be around 3,500 undiagnosed.
To support research dedicated to this pathology, we can participate in this race in its 1 or 5 kilometer modalities : half of the amount of the number will go to finance research and help families whose members suffer from this disease.
We are already prepared to run those five kilometers, which will be part of our training for the weekend. And for all those who want to participate, so that you can do it from any level, we give you five options to travel these five kilometers of solidarity .
Five ways to run five kilometers
- If you are a total novice: if you have never run, you can also participate by walking , and we suggest that this be your option to start moving. A good walk of five kilometers at a brisk pace can take us a little less than an hour, and we can enjoy this walk with the little ones in the house.
- If you want to start running: participating in a race can be the starting signal for a lifetime of running. If this is your first contact with running and you want to put yourself to the test, we suggest you start by interspersing walking (longer) and running (at a slow pace) intervals. For example: we can do five sets of 800 meters walking at a brisk pace and 200 meters of light running to see how our body responds.
- If you have recently started running: if you already have some running experience, but you still cannot do five kilometers in a row, we also recommend the ca-cos or combinations of running and walking , with more meters running than walking in this case. A good example could be five sets of 800 meters running and 200 meters walking to complete the five kilometers.
- If you run regularly: if you are already a regular runner, we suggest a progressive training of five kilometers . Start at a slow pace and increase your pace with each kilometer. In the last meters, if you dare, you can set yourself a triumphant sprint.
- If you are a pro runner: if the five kilometers have no secrets for you, we encourage you to look for your best mark in the Run Like a Hero race. Remember that you can run the five kilometers as many times as you want, and that the app will keep your best record, so you can try as many times as you want to get your best mark.
